Discussion (Text) PSA on downed aircraft…

5.5k Upvotes

It’s a long shot, but if anyone is reading this in Ukraine. Please please please DO NOT go around any downed aircraft. Fighter jets have in them many exotic chemicals such as hydrazine (an emergency fuel source). Exposure to fumes will all but guarantee cancer. The wreckage can continue to offgas for several hours, so just because there is no smoke does not mean you are safe.

Edit: I’m not sure of the specific chemicals/fuels used in Russian or Ukrainian jets. I’m a firefighter in the US and have only had training in regards to the jets most often flying over our city. I mention hydrazine because that’s what I know. At the end of the day, regardless of the specific jet, there are most likely chemicals that can result in severe injuries very quickly.

Update: All changes are subject to modification.

We've seen an unbelievable amount of traffic due to the ongoing Ukraine War. We understand that people have been coming here for general updates and information, however as things progress we are going to begin enforcing the rules on several topics.

  1. Captured equipment, POWs, abandoned vehicles will be handled on a case by case basis.

  2. Destroyed tanks/Aftermath will be taken on a case by case basis.

These changes are coming to keep our front-page devoted to "combat footage" - which has always been our MO here at r/combatfootage.

Why was my super insightful text post deleted? Because there has been easily 500+, all equally insightful, in the past 10 days.

Discussion (Text) About POW videos/photos from both sides.

No matter how I try to pretend that I am not, I'm still half russian half ukrainian. I know what it's like for the russian soldiers, most of them are kids, who were lied to. Anytime you see a knocked out or burning tank, there were people inside of it, be it russian or ukrainian. Those people are casualities of war, who died, following orders. They did not want to die, but they had to. The war is Putin's war, after all, not Russia's.

As for the POW videos/photos, I'd ask that people stop posting them. They do not actually add any value to this subreddit. Prisoners will say whatever will make them less likely to be executed, so what they are saying can be facts, and mostly is, but in some cases it's not. Seeing russian soldiers blindfolded, injured, and laying on the ground saying how they are being treated well or how the russia betrayed them feels disingenuous.

Second act are the videos where either side is making fun or ridiculing their prisoners. Under Geneva agreement that is disallowed. I see no reason as to why those should be allowed on here at all.

Of course, there are some videos that give away important information, those are fine. Any crucial information posted online is important. But posting videos or pictures akin to "another two young russiam soldiers captured" doesn't tell us anything that we didn't know before. They- Us, russians are not animals, and shouldn't be treated as hunting trophies, but as people.

The only thing different between me, and them, is that I am lucky enough to call Finland my home. Most of the soldiers are like me, they do not want to fight, yet they have to fight, due to the threat to their families from

I apologize for the lenght of this textt post, but I truly hope you will understand my point.

Stand with ukraine.

Now that the initial attack seems to have been somewhat repelled, what will the next move be? Will they surround it and wait? Pull out and level it? Make another attempt to take it?

Discussion (Text) Russian radio chatter?

I found out about the Russian radio signals being open to the world 2 days ago. There’s some chatter on 3720 LSB just wondering if anyone could decode it, if it was actual military or just regular radio. Just been going through the signals trying to find anything interesting. Also 3704.81 LSB had Morse code playing the other night but was gone a couple hours later.

All I can understand is some numbers and the operator "saying come in again" and a faint voice.
