Good for them. Call me ignorant, but forcing women to wear a headscarf is repressive and sexist. If they choose to do so, nothing wrong with that.

Why would anybody call you ignorant for that?

u/hanlonsaxe Apr 01 '23
People will often say things like, "it's not your job to say what is allowed in another country or religion" or some variation and say it's ignorant for us to impose our western views on others.
But give people a choice. Want to wear one? Do it. But to be jailed or worse for not seems backwards to me.
Of course on this side of the pond we are not allowing women to chose what to do with their own bodies so I guess there is some hypocrisy but again there I say we should give people a choice.

u/NoHandBananaNo Apr 01 '23
Thing is plenty of people IN that country think the same thing.
So youre not trying to make up rules for their country youre essentially just saying, I support the people in Iran who want to be able to choose.
9
u/Snaccbacc Apr 01 '23
Yet there’s enough women in Iran who are tired of being oppressed over stupid rules. So it doesn’t matter if it’s “not your country/culture/religion”
Anyone with common decency would support these women in finally taking control of what they can wear on their OWN body.

Is it a choice if they're indoctrinated from the start?

u/FlugonNine Apr 02 '23
Yeah, because continuing to do something is a choice you have to constantly reaffirm, until you possibly don't and choose differently.

Idk, doesnt seem like they want to end this in grace or retreat. Guess we'll see.

u/Small-Palpitation310 Apr 01 '23
only saying it would be an acceptable course of action, at least in the short run

They will just go into hiding for a few years and eventually resurface supporting Al Trumpada

Or just demonstrate them that their teaching is simply a moral guide and people will always freely adherre, with the hope of being better humans.

Love to see it, but I wish they blurred out the women’s faces. The IR will try to hunt them down. :(

u/NipplesOnMyPancakes Apr 01 '23
Nope. Way too many women doing this now. Being public about is part of the point. They have to show no fear and not act like they are not doing anything wrong for the movement to spread.

What's the name of the song?
9
u/MelodyMaster5656 Apr 02 '23
The Hanging Tree. It’s from the book/movie series The Hunger Games, and in that series it’s sung by rebels fighting an oppressive government. Pretty fitting.

They need all the support they can get. Imagine if every woman burned every hijab.

Love seeing these brave women. But I also feel a little nervous about their faces caught on video, which is sad.

When they are not wearing a hijab, their physical beauty comes out more. And it seems uncomfortable to wear it everyday.

Kinda creepy to film people like that, when they've no idea...

Don't know where you're from in the world but filming people in public places is legal in both U.S and Canada so it's not a particularly abnormal thing for a lot of people on reddit(Reddit is very American centric, that's why I named these two country).
This kind of footage(when it's professionally filmed )has also been used in documentaries for ages,so it's not a new thing either. And with how the footage is shot,i'm pretty sure the person camera/phone is in plain view.

u/Chapped5766 Apr 02 '23
In my country, posting footage of people'a faces online without their permission is illegal.
1
u/Elileoko Apr 01 '23
I'm not from North America, in my country it's legal to record people but you're not allowed to share the footage on social media or other without their consent.

u/TotalChicanery Apr 01 '23 edited Apr 02 '23
Not true. You can share footage of strangers online all you want. Supreme Court has ruled you have no expectations of privacy while out in public. Now if the video was not taken publicly like in the comfort of someone’s home, that’d be a different story.
Edit: I’m wrong! I thought he said “I’m from North America”, not “I’m not from North America”! My mistake, total brain fart! Lol!

u/ImBrokeNowBoi Apr 02 '23
They explicitly said in their comment they aren’t from North America.

u/TotalChicanery Apr 02 '23
Oh, for chrissakes! I thought he said “I’m from North America”! How the hell did my brain not register that “not”?! Sorry! Brain fart! Lol! Just disregard my comment! Or should I just delete it?? 🤷♂️

Is it possible for tik tok dickheads not to edit in the worst possible sounding music every time they make an upload?

Meanwhile people claim that wearing it empowers you. I can see that in a country where you are allowed to take it off.
