The gun crew of the central battery ironclad HMS Alexandra. I believe the weapon shown is a BL (breechloading gun) 9.2" Mk III (or later). The barrel and breech weighed 22 tons or more and fired a 380lb shell up to 10,000 yards. [1740x1139]

HMVS/HMAS Cerebus, a breastwork monitor, completed in 1870. Armed with 4 x 10" muzzle-loaded rifles in twin turrets. She spent her entire career in the defense of Melbourne at Port Phillip. Shown later in her career, she was sunk as a breakwater in 1924 & can still be seen today. [5440x4080]

OC D16 Velos in Thessaloniki (DD-581 USS Charrette), operated in the Pacific during WW2, was transferred to the Greek Navy in 1959, it acted against the junta in 1973-1974, was decomisioned in 1991, she's upgraded with search and track radars, one of the five 5inch turrets is removed [OC] [4608x3456]

US Atlantic Fleet exercises circa WW1. The ship in the foreground is either a Florida or Delaware-class battleship (probably Florida). The next ship in line is definitely a Delaware as it has one of it's two masts between the funnels, an oddity of that class. [1536x909]
