I liked the news story, where the owner seemed much more calm and collected.
Also, for context: this was $600 worth of merchandise from an erotic boutique. The thief had a prior arrest for theft as well.

The moral of the story is don't fuck with small businesses, they're already struggling enough and depending on who the owner is they will happily take the time out of their day to fuck with you

don't fuck with anybody. if you're so out of your mind as to cross someone, someone is just as likely to cross you back twice as hard.

Yep, someone kept robbing our store at night and getting a lot of expensive merchandise, so my boss had removable steel bars installed on every exit but the front, and spent the night every night at our store.
After a week or so, they came back, and nearly caught a 357 to the face when they ran to the back of the store and realized their only exit was a narrow hallway with my boss standing in it. He shot a warning shot and they ran past him with their hands up. That was like 15 years ago, we've never had an issue since.

I'm all for the kind of crazy this woman is unleashing on the thief, but you have to have a pretty heavy dose of nuts already flowing through your system to be able to dredge up from inside you the situation unfolding here.
55
u/thomasinks 5d ago
Keep in mind this is the owner supposedly. If this is a small business in a bad part of town (speculating), she could be dealing with this shit constantly.
→ More replies (1)45
u/Dynamic_Taipan 4d ago
You don't have to be in the "bad part of town" to have stuff shoplifted.
It's not just the monetary value of the item, but all the time invested in obtaining the product to sell in the store. It takes time & money to travel to tradeshows, visit suppliers, talk to reps, arrange for shipping, in some cases paying customs duties, the time taken to murchandise, plus a myriad of other factors in getting the product to sell.

Update: Here’s the actual story! The arresting office is my best friend. I showed him this post because he doesn’t have Reddit and he said the owner actually made it on A&E a couple of times. She eventually had to move her shop’s location to a “better” part of the city due to it being frequently burglarized. It’s now located in the Houston Heights.

For those defending her, it's not like she's stealing a loaf of bread to feed her kids. She stole a miniskirt to look sexy. Stealing for vanity's sake and then being publicly shamed has a certain poetic irony that I can get behind.

Yeah, steal from Walmart. If no one stole from them, they would have more money to lobby congress to erode our social programs even more. Steal as much as you can as often as you can. If I'm on your jury, that jury will not convict. Fuck Walmart, fuck their legal political bribes, fuck their predatory behavior.

David: Uh, yeah. It's when you buy something for your business and the government pays you back for it.

Amazon is arguably a lot worse than Walmart (harder to steal from tho)
59
u/808ocd 5d ago
walmart has more employees on welfare than any other employer in the nation. they make billions in profits per year, they can afford to pay their workers fairly.
walmart is one of the biggest welfare queens in the nation. the taxpayer massively subsidizes walmart's operations. this is the only thing we should be outraged at. not the publicfreakout shoplifting videos. that theft is microscopic compared to what walmart gets away with.
the way we've normalized sub-survival wages in america is saddening. we are literally building a mountain of money at the feet of the wealthiest individuals in the world, and leaving ourselves destitute and on welfare. what the fuck do people think will happen after a few more decades of this? bye bye middle class.

Amazon is incredibly easy to steal from. It's very common to be "Sent the wrong item"
It's as easy as telling customer service "I got my drop off receipt"
Edit: in case anyone is curious. I work at a UPS store and the Amazon drivers tell me how the returns usually end up working. Like when you drop em off to return, they are sorted into boxes that sometimes don't ever get opened to actually check the contents. These boxes also end up being put up for auction Storage War style.
So many high dollar items have been put in these boxes, things from Motherboards, to full Lego sets get put in these consolidated boxes together. And majority of the time, from what I'm told. Even if the item is okay, there's a real chance Amazon won't even bother trying to add it back to their stock.
I'll admit I did this once just cause I was curious if it would actually be that easy. It is. But it's not something I'd do again personally

According to this the thief was arrested and charged, but was already on probation from a previous theft charge. Several other local business owners saw the video and said that the suspect had previously stolen from them. At least one other business owner filed a police report. I couldn't find any updates on the story, since the one I linked, but this "raggedy bitch" has a very easy to find IG account where she appears to make a sincere effort to not look raggedy, but still very much looks like a bitch.

A girl I used to work with loved to catch shoplifters and make a bunch of drama about it. She would even chase them. She did this until a group of three girls turned on her in a service hallway and beat her halfway into a coma. Now she doesn't say anything to shoplifters, marks the time for the camera to find proof, and call security. Like she should have to begin with.

My dad manages a small, locally owned liquor store and has talked about this a lot before. But with the added context of "if you make it easy to steal from your store, those thieves will tell their friends that it's an easy mark and the problem will get worse". My dad has dealt with a lot of people trying to steal over the years and has been unfortunately proved right many times. Most recently, the issue is people coming into the store when the smaller, meeker, female employee is the one working. They know that she will not chase them or make a big scene out of it like the other workers so they come in when she's working.

Her image is her priority, hence the vanity-oriented theft. To admit fault would be to discard the mask and reveal her true self. People like this are always looking to "save face" rather than suffer public scrutiny of who they really are. They know they behave badly and they do not care about morals or ethics, because they see those as "rules for other people." They are only ever "sorry" when they get caught and see their only escape being to seek pity from others. "Look at me feeling bad. Feel bad for me because now I am the victim." This is again a lie and a con.

u/Harbulary-Bandit 5d ago edited 4d ago
I remember the last few times i saw this posted, you actually had people in the comments saying the store owner was a Karen. A lot of them used that “just leave them alone because insurance pays for the stolen merchandise” or some shit, but of course she said it, she runs a small business.
Edit: after writing my comment, I scrolled down and whaddaya know, more apologists for the thief. This time the star is “mental health”. She stole sex shop items because of the state of her mental health. . .
Someone else said “we should get both sides of the story, she could have been the victim and this video is misleading. Give me a fucking break. Smh
Edit: because some people want to remain r/confidentlyincorrect and pleaded for others to google shit we already know, I will include the textbook definition of stalking/harassment:
‘the following of a person about or the watching or frequenting of the vicinity of, or an approach to a person’s place of residence, business or work or any place that a person frequents for the purposes of any social or leisure activity’.
Stalking involves a persistent course of conduct or actions by a person which are intended to maintain contact with or exercise power and control over another person. These actions cause distress, loss of control, fear or harassment to another person and occur more than once.
Stalking can involve threats or sexual innuendo and the stalker generally tries to intimidate or induce fear in the person they are stalking. The person being stalked may only realise they are being stalked once they identify a pattern of strange or suspicious incidents occurring, such as:
phone calls text messages messages left on social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter etc. notes left on the their car strange or unwanted gifts left at their home an awareness that they are being followed being continually stared at or gestured to by another person. The person being stalked can often develop a sense of loss of control over their lives and can be forced into changing their routine and behaviours.
The criminal offence of stalking is contained under section 13 Crimes (Domestic and Personal Violence) Act 2007. To prove an offence of stalking the police must be able to produce evidence to a court. The police evidence must prove that the accused person stalked another person with the intention of causing another person to fear physical or mental harm.

Don’t do this. In situations like this, maybe ninety-five times out of a hundred, the thief will just be embarrassed, hem and haw and make excuses, run, etc. But every now and then, the thief may actually be dangerous person. Someone who’s carrying, or who, unlike you, actually knows how to fight. And then what? Shot or an ass-kicking for social media clout?
Just report it to the police. You’ll be okay without the social media clout.
