Exactly 5 years ago today was game 1 vs warriors
Lebron dropped 51/8/8. Arguably his best playoff performance yet. 2018 lebron (his peak) at his utmost peak. We all know what happened….

Most heartbreaking postseason loss as a fan?
I wasn’t around in the 90’s but I’d say my top 5 are 2008 game 7 vs Boston, 2009 game 4 vs Orlando, 2017 game 3 vs Golden state are the ones that still hurt but the game that broke me the most in the moment was game 4 in 2016 when we lost at home and went down 3-1.

Former Cavs face off in the 2023 NBA Finals
Jeff Green vs Kevin Love.
Who are you rooting for? Personally I'm going with Jeff Green since KLove already has a ring, and Green deserves a ring after all he's been through and how well he played for us in the playoffs.

How would you all feel about trading up for Gradey Dick?
He’s a fantastic shooter at the small forward which is exactly what we need. I thought of a trade where we could trade Jarett Allen to the Mavs for their pick/Gradey and then use that new cap space to sign another center like brook lopez

Interesting factoid on Zach Lowe’s podcast…
Was listening to the Lowe Post recap the Miami’s Boston series and they mentioned how Miami saw a lot of success with their different zone coverages. They pointed out that this is not likely to work well against Denver, who are a better shooting team and averaged 1.21pts per possession against zone defense between the regular season and postseason…2nd only to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
I don’t know about you, but I found that pretty surprising/interesting.

Would y’all do this trade
Jarret Allen and Darius garland for finney-smith and mikal bridges. Cavaliers get rid of two redundancies for two 3 and d wings (much needed pieces) with the upside that mikal bridges can be a really good number 2 or 3 option on a contender. Additionally this would give extra room for Mobley to grow his offensive game. As for the nets they get a young guard with a ton of upside in Darius garland and a valuable center who can be a piece u build around or trade. Also if needed the cavs would add draft pics to make it more enticing.

The Cavs prioritizing trading for Caris Levert over Derrick White is low key turning into a huge blunder
Hindsight, of course, but damn. We were rumored to be looking into both, seems the powers that be thought Levert had more upside.

Where can I find this hat?
Where can I find this cavs hat that Lebron wore to a post game news conference sometime ago? Looks like it's all leather and has the classic logo on it.

Aussie Cavs Fans - Can you give us an updated Travers scouting report while we’re sleeping tonight? 🦘🇦🇺
Will he be an above average defender?
What’s the ceiling on his offensive game?
Does he have that dingo in him?

Bradley Beal
The Wizards may be set for a fire sale and their #1 priority will probably be getting rid of Bradley Beal. And yes, that contract is horrendous...but is it John Wall/Russell Westbrook horrendous? Unlike the other two, Beal is still a high-percentage scorer.
Jarrett Allen and a few of our rotational players get it done. Next year you're playing small ball with Mobley, LeVert, Beal, Darius, and Mitchell. That means you have to bring back Green, rely on Rubio, and develop Merrill and Isaiah Mobley. Diakite would have to get some looks, too. Offensively that's an interesting look.
What say you?

Hey Lebron, Come home.
Finish your career in Cleveland.
You might not get a movie deal or see Tom Cruise shopping at the mall, but this is were you became Lebron. This is where you know people truly love and respect you - because they are you.
The lights in LA are blinding and fake; where people are molded by surgeons. Cities like Cleveland are real and the people molded here are strong, resilient, and loyal.
- a fan.

“Why aren’t we firing our HC like other teams?”
Milwaukee Bucks:
Won the NBA Finals in 2021
Went out in the second round in 2022
Went out in the first round in 2023
Clear downwards trajectory.
Philadelphia 76ers:
Went out in the second round in 2021
Went out in the second round in 2022
Went out in the second round in 2023
Plateaued in performance
Phoenix Suns:
Made the NBA finals in 2021
Went out in the second round in 2022
Went out in the second round in 2023
Slight downwards trajectory.
Cleveland Cavaliers:
Did not make post season in 2021
Went out in the play-ins in 2022
Went out in the first round in 2023
Upwards trajectory.
So what’s the point of this post? To demonstrate that we are not in a comparable situation to many of the teams that are routinely brought up in the never-ending discussion on whether or not we fire JB. The three other teams in this post have either seen a decline in results (Bucks and Suns) or have clearly made it as far as they can with their current set up (76ers). Meanwhile in the three full years that JB has been head coach of the cavs the team has seen consistent year over year improvement. Is he the coach to bring another championship to the city? Maybe or maybe not, but I think the front office is correct in their current evaluation of the situation when they don’t see a dire need to fire JB this particular off season.

Whether to fire JB, and how us casuals should evaluate coaching in general
Inspired by the other post here from today arguing we should keep JB because this team has improved year-over-year, which I find to be incredibly unconvincing (are we really giving credit for something that was 95% driven by lucking into Mobley in the lottery and trading for Mitchell/Allen)? It got me thinking about just how bad and narrative-driven coach evaluations are in general (even compared to how people evaluate teams and players more broadly).
For us plebs on the outside, there’s really only 3 things we can judge coaches on. Everything else is just too hard to evaluate without being deeply involved with the team or being current/former coaches ourselves:
1) Is the team’s performance consistently better than the sum of its parts (e.g., Heat)?
2) Does the team do well in situations that are very clearly coaching driven (inbound plays, timeout usage)?
3) Are the players responding to the coach’s message (a bit harder to know, but sometimes obvious/publicized)?
Notice I didn’t include whether the team is good or not, whether the team has improved over time or not, whether the team “stepped up” in the playoffs or not, whether the coach “made adjustments” or not, etc. Maybe a Jeff Van Gundy can use these factors to judge a coach he sees on TV, but the rest of us truthfully are not equipped to make any sort of meaningful observation.
JB has not looked great at number 1 or 2, particularly from a playoff performance perspective. Number 3 he seems to have down, but unless you have a super team with big personalities it’s less important than the others. That tells me it’s probably time to move on, though not a slam dunk given we want to show we are a solid organization that values continuity, etc.
