R6 Siege is super toxic regardless of gender. Those ultra aggressive mf’ers will absolutely go out of their way to spew their negativity to anyone and everyone. I used to play a lot of R6 Vegas back in the day and the vast majority of players back then were friendly. Sad and disgusted with the current state.

u/Vmanaa 13d ago
R6 just sucks. Havent seen any other game with more toxic, throwers, griefers/TK community.
23
u/squidbelik 13d ago
This is the exact reason why Ubi is making so many changes to tackle griefing and trolls, and so many of those players just cry about the changes. The toxicity makes it so difficult for new players to enjoy the game.
→ More replies (2)18
u/ShadowZpeak 13d ago
For old players too. R6 pretty much had the best voice quality, even better than discord. This led to a lot of people with good microphones (which you could tell apart instamtly) talking and others joining in. It was a blast coming home, hopping onto ranked and just having fun with everyone else, finding out about their day or hearing a funny story
10
u/squidbelik 13d ago
Exactly. I remember when I used to solo queue ranked, which I did from bronze to plat 2, and my games weren’t toxic at all. I found that communicating early and asking how people’s games were going, making small talk, etc. made the vibe of the games positive even though they went poorly. But then when my friend who was new to the game started playing, he immediately made my games way more toxic and people reciprocated that. It’s so easy to be toxic, but if you put effort, it also doesn’t have to be, which to be fair isn’t easy for lots of people. It’s just unfortunate it has to be that way. But I just hope that the new changes make it easier for everyone to enjoy the game that way.

I find R6 is more racist than misogynistic in my experience
62
u/hnnnghf 13d ago
I’ve been threatened to be r*ped in siege, there’s definitely racism but there is so much misogyny that I think you’re wrong saying it’s “more racist” than misogynistic. It’s very much of both to the point it’s really not comparable
→ More replies (1)25
u/one-joule 13d ago
It's not a matter of whether there's more of one than the other, it's about whether there's enough of each one to make the experience unenjoyable. And clearly there's far too much of both.
9
u/DerWaechter_ 13d ago edited 12d ago
It's also a matter of perspective. Regardless of which one is more prevalent, a woman is automatically going to be exposed to more misogyny than racism, wheras a guy is going to be more exposed to racism by virtue of not being the target of misogyny.
Doesn't make either of the two okay though

Probably maybe helps its a mining game, not a shooting game, primarily. So your thoughts maybe aren’t primed to toxicity because of how much more important cooperation is
But also so many online games work better with cooperation but so many pick shouting instead

What is the endgoal of deep rock, like its a looter shooter?
67
u/Unspeakblycrass 13d ago
Not really. There are like 8 different mission types and in each mission the cave systems are randomly generated so it almost always feels like a new environment (unless you’re like me with nearly 1000 hours in who starts to recognize small patterns).
You work as a team of 4 to mine minerals, build refineries, hunt giant bugs and more. Each Dwarf is equipped with unique weapons, traversal and utility tools designed to work in conjunction with your fellow Dwarves.
To answer your question, DRG is about team work, survival, fun, dancing and beer. Also Darkness and dead bugs.
Rock and Stone!

Seriously tho, I have been online gaming for decades and I can't remember once having used voice chat with strangers. I just don't see why I should. All games I've played are perfectly playable without. Besides of a few good friends I made through games, no one heard my voice while gaming.
Maybe it's because I have always been on PC where text chat is (or used to be? I don't game online often anymore) the common way to chat.

Phasmophobia was like that too. If a girl makes themselves known then there is usually a creep in the match that either trash talks them, says creepy stuff or follows them around annoying them.
It makes me uncomfortable just being 3ed party witness to it. I can't imagine having to deal with it all the time.

u/gophergun ☭ 13d ago

67

Everyone is talking about "oh how amazing would be *insertsingleplayergame* with a multiplayer!". NO IT WILL NOT. And multiplayer games tend to have that thing called "balance" which is strangely destroys all fun.
9
u/_Bill_Huggins_ 13d ago edited 13d ago
I agree for many games. When I find a great single player game to play and I see comments about how it needs multiplayer I feels this way usually.
I believe this is part of what killed Elite Dangerous the online space flight simulator. They needed to keep weapon damage in check so they made turreted guns attached to your ship do way less damage even though that makes little sense to do so. Turreted guns could track in 360 degrees so it's an obvious advantage. In real life a turreted ship gun doesn't do less damage because it's on a turret... But pvp balancing made it necessary.
So you were left with something that when you did PvE it made no sense at all.
Sure you need some balance in single player but you don't need nearly as much.

FFXIV is definitely less toxic but I've been harassed differently there. Had my fair share of people either stalking or trying to groom me, when I was a bit younger and they heard through VC that I am female and single.
The issue with FFXIV is that blocking someone, doesn't stop them from stalking you in-game. If you happened to be on their friendlist at some point, you will always be on their FL, until they delete it themselves. Doesn't matter if you unfriend or block them. They see in which area you are because of it and follow you. You could even end up in a raid with them.
That's the single thing I hated most about the game. I ended up changing names and servers, when I had the chance
→ More replies (23)16
u/aethervox_ 13d ago
Unfortunately i have very similar experiences, sure XIV is not toxic on a surface level meaning you will most likely not have people throwing slurs at you in dungeons, but many people like to brush aside the fact that within fcs and the rp community or the raiding community there is still a lot of drama prone people and also people who prey on (often underage) girls and like you've said stalking is a issue that SE has been ignoring for a long time and the GMs seem to do so as well. I've started the game at a fairly young age and quickly wound up in a fc that seemed nice at first but eventually it became clear they were trying to groom me, so i left but then they begun stalking and bullying me so i ended up deleting the character and quitting the game only to return years later on a brand new data center and character.
Since then it's been chill and i've been having a great time in xiv for the most part but even when raiding i refuse to speak in vc to avoid any unwanted attention. Thankfully most statics seem to be fine with that so long i perform my job well.

u/achmadtheterror2 13d ago
Squad is great in this respect. Not highly competitive most of the time and everyone is just the to have fun and it's evident in VC. Makes the VC a huge part of the fun in that game. Worst you'll get is from a squad lead playing very seriously and you don't follow orders lol

COD and R6 are the absolute worst games to play if you’re not a straight white male. It’s shocking how grown men act when they don’t have to face the people they’re verbally abusing.
CSGO isn’t great, but lately I’ve found that most of the guys talking in casual matches just treat girls like they’re one of the guys. Probably helps that the player base is a bit older than the others I mentioned. Valorant is known for having a lot of women too.
I don’t blame you for just stepping away though. It’s unfortunate.
