[LeBron James] Welp guess my blue ✔️ will be gone soon cause if you know me I ain’t paying the 5. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Well it looks like Bron isn’t a fan of the new Twitter updates spearheaded by Elon Musk. Talking into consideration that he still uses the free version of Spotify, it’s not surprising that he would have this take lmao

Oh yeah? Did you tried them with some gas station earphones for that extra spice?

It's not that bad if you have to deal with it. It just makes it obvious on some tracks and specific genre of music, like metal. Thank god we have so many options and choices in this day and age. It feels like a blessing.

Real talk though: it is VERY annoying how everyone is pushing subscriptions now. Google recently tested a massive increase in YouTube ads to drive subscriptions to Premium.

Forcing subscriptions for services that didn’t really need them before (i.e. apps) is upsetting.

it's fine on browser, the issue is on tv thru the app. there are workarounds involving third party apps and messing with the dns config, but those seem to tend to break stuff (may be that i'm just not tech savvy enough).

18

u/_ClippersFan_ Clippers Mar 31 '23

Not sure if it works in other countries (I'm English) but through my TV on the YouTube app I can just click the little "i" button (usually bottom right) and then skip ads instantly (have to press this ad is annoying/not relevant etc), no matter the length.

Lol, subscriptions for a video hosting site is like most reasonable model there exists.

Because all those apps wern't trying to be profitable to begin with, so they ran them at a loss for the sake of growth.

9

u/joshTheGoods Bulls Mar 31 '23

Forcing subscriptions for services that didn’t really need them before (i.e. apps) is upsetting.

The flip side is, I'm expected as an engineer to support this software forevermore and just not get paid a dime for it? The subscription model was always the correct model, we just didn't have the ability to enforce it in the past. Layer on top of that the experiences of people like me coming up where I'd bust my ass on a piece of software and sell it to a small group of people and then have someone PMing me weeks later asking for support on their cracked version of my commercial software.

Don't get me wrong, I understand the appeal of free / cheap stuff. I'm no angel, I've pirated plenty, but I think people need to understand that most of us aren't writing software for you for free, and that includes all of the updates you expect after you pay your one time cost of $29.99 three years ago.

Do not ever treat something you see on reddit as a fact no matter how many awards and upvotes it has unless you are dealing with an actual expert like on /r/askhistorians. People will upvote literally anything that confirms their world view no matter how incorrect it is, and any experts trying to correct it get downvoted in the replies. It's not about being able to afford the $8, it's that Twitter Blue has basically no benefit to it. Even if you're a billionaire there's no point in spending money for no reason.

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '23

for brand reasons it might be better just to publicly announce you are leaving now to prevent impostors

what will happen is that Musk will give it to him for free.

Everybody in middle school had that on their shit. Like sure Ashley, someone really was gonna try to steal your identity on Twitter

You would think, but you still see people getting scammed every day by accounts pretending to be celebrities on a "personal" account begging celebrity followers for money.

I mean, if you’re famous/wealthy there’s the “benefit” that it’ll protect you from random impersonators making an account with your name and saying horrendous shit to give you bad publicity or whatever. Which is exactly why the blue check existed in the first place. Elon pretty much resorting to protection rackets to try to recoup some of that 44 billion, what a fucking barney

71

u/PyreDruid Mar 31 '23

It was invented to protect Twitter.

85

u/Dereg5 Mar 31 '23

That was why it was invented but it came from litigation. They did it to stop being sued and to prove to the courts that they were trying to fix the problem.

I agree with this, but he also still uses Spotify with ads, so I'm thinking yeah he's pretty frugal

Anytime LeBrons frugalness comes up, this is the only reference I see. LeBron literally bought a home in Beverly hills for $37M a few years ago, and it's not his only house. Frugal would be driving a Prius and owning a moderate home. The dude can certainly joke about being frugal, but if anything he just spends wisely.

u/IMakeMyOwnLunch Mar 31 '23

It’s just part of building an image. But people eat it up whenever athletes/celebrities/uber rich act like normal people because it makes them more relatable.

Yeah he literally drives a Porsche 918, something that costs over a million dollars. Not exactly frugal. Not paying for pandora or Twitter is just a principle thing not a frugal thing.

26

u/drc56 Knicks Mar 31 '23

Yeah frugal isn't the way to describe it. I think Bron just spends his money on stuff he thinks is worth it and otherwise he doesn't. It's just hilarious when it's things that won't make a dent in it, he definitely falls more into the line of "cheap" but not in a bad way, just when it comes to certain things.

What I always found confusing about this is that I’m sure LeBron could have gotten a free subscription if he wanted, famous people get perks like that all the time. The marketing value of someone like LeBron using their app would be far more valuable than the cost of an annual subscription 😂

It comes out he would wear socks till they fell apart just to avoid buying more

He would show up to the teams facility and fill up gallon jugs of water and take them home so he would lower his water bill

Has the team bus pick him up at home so he could save on gas

Owns an Ebay account selling all the free shoes he gets and squirrels away the funds
