This felt about right for Toronto vs Philly game. Solid defense on Embiid and making other guys hit shots

46

u/S420J 76ers Apr 01 '23

It is kinda nuts they always play us the exact same way and it feels like we’ve been so even over the years

31

u/Freakazoidberg Raptors Apr 01 '23

I dunno apart from Gasol there's really no one that contained Embiid for us. He always got our defense to collapse on him.. and everyone else for the 6ers lit up.

16

u/TantricEmu 76ers Apr 01 '23 edited Apr 01 '23

Sixers defense had some impressive moments too. A lot of TOR possessions where dudes were just playing hot potato in the paint trying to get a decent look and eventually ending in a turnover. A few nice blocks too. The second half was closer than I would have liked but we played a solid game.

That's their defensive strategy, put 2-3 guys on the star every possession, let role players rain threes every time

18

u/mMounirM Raptors Apr 01 '23

I thought we did that less today tbh. but you guys still made contested 3s.

7

Didn’t he end the other night with 0 after starting? They were leaving him really open

16

He has over 20 games with 0 points.

5

u/thequestionn3 76ers Apr 01 '23

Sixers are like 16-6 when he scores 0 points.

292

u/MaximumestBob Nuggets Bandwagon Apr 01 '23

Harden is a good basketball player

20

u/Rob-Dipshit Apr 01 '23

I truly believe he hasn’t lost any skill in the past 2/3 years. Although I can’t help but feel like he’d be a lot more agile if he dropped 10/15 pounds. I know hes getting old and doesn’t drive to the basket as much anymore, but he showed he still has it tonight

15

u/MaximumestBob Nuggets Bandwagon Apr 01 '23

I would be lying if I said I never thought he was washed after last season.

He's been proving that take wrong the whole year though basically

8

u/MightyMudBone 76ers Apr 01 '23

Yeah I also think that the reality is, for some players, they have to play to stay in shape. We can all speculate why. But regardless, some players (including Harden and Embiid) need to be playing to stay anywhere close to game shape.

High chance we lose FVV in the offseason and trade OG next season, if Nurse steps away I can see Adrian Griffin leaning into a Scottie development season

3

u/AllOutRaptors Raptors Apr 01 '23

It's honestly hard to put a realistic guess as to what he will become. If he can play aggressively and continue to work on his shooting, he could be a top 10 player in the league. Ironically enough, I think his realistic outcome is around a Siakam level, but with better playmaking

1

u/iro3 Spurs Apr 01 '23

and worse offense ?

7

u/northernjigby Raptors Apr 01 '23 edited Apr 01 '23

Dream scenario I think he could be as good as Jimmy Butler, buuuuut he's got to get over his passivity and have the opportunity to take the reins for a few seasons to develop

EDIT: Realistically, I'm not sure, he's a point forward with great passing and a confidence problem maybe he'll be Ben Simmons 2.0

0

u/Kevita24 Apr 01 '23 edited Apr 01 '23

He's a much better play maker than Butler, that's no knock on Butler but Scottie is legit a visionary passer and that's not a stretch to say...Butler is more of a secondary playmaker, he's a very good playmaker for a forward but Scottie can play the point and be a legit 8-9 assist per game guard in his prime IMO

Surprisingly entertaining game all around.

  • Scottie was great, we’re starting to approach “best player on the team” territory.
  • Pascal and Fred both having a bad night is still not a recipe for success.
  • Nick’s pregame interview has me concerned for next season, but I’ll save tomorrow’s issues for tomorrow’s me.

I’d say this team is destined to end up 41-41, but we still have to face the Celtics twice, Bucks once and our next 2 games are against a Hornets team that has actually looked competent lately, so… we’ll see what happens.

GG Sixers, ya filthy animals.

37

u/willbottomforembiid 76ers Apr 01 '23

18

u/No_Football1323 Celtics Apr 01 '23

Nice measured take. Curious, how would you say Siakim’s been this year? Man seemed to be ascending but haven’t heard much from him this year.

38

u/SPC54 Raptors Apr 01 '23

Pre-ASB Siakam was arguably playing the best stretch of his career, ever since the ASB his production has slumped a bit, as to what caused this sudden slump is debatable.

Unfortunately, when one of our players breaks out of a slump this season, someone else goes into a slump.

If this team was on the same page they wouldn’t be under .500.

6

u/boenwip Nuggets Bandwagon Apr 01 '23

Tbf Siakam was balling out when no one else was. Game after game. He went from “we have to stick together” to being visibly over losing, no matter how many points he put up. Ever since then I don’t know what’s happened, but he definitely hasn’t been the same dude that we were arguing should have been a non-debatable all star.

5

u/VoidMageZero 76ers Apr 01 '23

Monkey paw curls and you get more slumping.

7

u/q1someguy Raptors Apr 01 '23

Carried the team when everyone else was hot garbage in the early season. Was playing extremely well.

Then a couple months ago he started playing worse at every part of the game, and it's been quite bad in the last few weeks.

Adding Poeltl may have messed with the spacing and made things worse but he was playing noticably worse than the first half of the season for a little bit before the deadline too.

4

u/ImS33 76ers Apr 01 '23

I got down voted a lot awhile ago for saying that maybe he just isn't a consistently great player at the start of the season but here we are again. I'd be pretty curious to know if he's actually going in and out of slumps yearly or if it's just some insane streak of various things bringing him back down over and over

u/_Thanks-Obama_ Raptors Apr 01 '23

It's been really refreshing to see back to back games from Scottie where he looked like the best player on the team from start to finish. He's played with an assertiveness from start to finish that hasn't been there most of the year. Some really special passes today as well.

Celtics and Bucks might be resting at that point. That’s my current cope.

3

u/SPC54 Raptors Apr 01 '23

If they weren’t so close in the standings, I’d agree.

Celtics might rest one of Tatum/Brown for one of the games, but I highly doubt they sit both of them for both games.

Bucks are the last game of the season, so that one’s up in the air.

6

u/UnfilteredGarbage 76ers Apr 01 '23

I think they missed 1 shot in the 2nd quarter and that was an Embiid heave at the end of the shot clock

Edit: missed 3. A block on a Harden shot, a Melton missed driving layup and the shot clock heave.

28

u/WiseguyD Raptors Apr 01 '23

Welp. This game is very good Scottie Barnes propaganda at least.

49

u/ballin4ever Apr 01 '23

Im sorry but comitting to Siakam is not worth stunting Scotties growth and thats the hard truth.

Teams ceiling is first round, and its painfully obvious. And I love Siakam and everything hes done for this franchise, great story.

8

u/daddy_OwO 76ers Apr 01 '23

Too bad the mavs don’t have anything, you’d need a 3 or 4 team deal centered around Kylie to LA and players/picks to Raps to have a chance of it getting done but they would do so much better with Siakam. The Nugs might be an option, especially since they would probably send Murray for some career rehab unless he pops off again in the playoffs and you would get good picks

5

u/ballin4ever Apr 01 '23

Murray would be an enticing fit with Scottie and the Raptors. I think Nuggets would have to flame out this year to consider that

2

u/daddy_OwO 76ers Apr 01 '23

Or Murray just has to play like he has all year. If Pascal is the option to replace Murray with and Murray doesn’t look worthwhile then a trade might be best to maximize the teams chances

An entertaining game all things considered, although Scottie deserved better than a Fred/Pascal disasterclass

We desperately need another PG, because Fred is increasingly unreliable but whenever he comes off we immediately collapse. Dowtin went -13 in 9 minutes in the second quarter and got repeatedly abused by Harden.

3

u/_Thanks-Obama_ Raptors Apr 01 '23

Did we watch the same game? The 76ers biggest run came with Embiid off the floor and Harden plus bench had a layup line in the 2nd Q. Embiid was cooking Poeltl in the first half so they changed the matchup to OG as the primary defender in the 2nd half to allow Poeltl to stay closer to the basket to provide help defense. 76ers then scored 40 points in the 2nd half...

Pascal Siakam is a two-time All-Star and All-NBA selection. He is not performing well and certainly not leading this team when we need it. Pretty concerning that that he constantly fades away on shots where he should be going towards the basket, especially when smaller defenders are on him. When he wants to get his shot, he doesn't look to pass. Can't have that for a player with his accolades. His two-man game with Poeltl has been non-existent, and he doesn't look to move off the ball when Scottie or OG have the ball. The Raptors need more from him or they should get whatever return they can for him and give Scottie a greater role.

Raptors absolute trash. Feels great to get out of the game without injuries. Like playing your little brother who gets frustrated he can't compete on the same level

Love how youre in our reddit sub on a friday night. Hope you dont wake up still thinking about us

u/ktm1128 76ers Apr 01 '23

Oh I'll be dreaming about that g-league beat down all night. Fun to watch scrub franchise wallow in realization that the team, coach, and fans are trash

u/Extreme_Ad_7594 Apr 01 '23

Still salty from 2019. Bruh its been 4 years grow up

You had two 20 points leads and won by 7, enjoy that 2nd round exit 😂😂

9

u/ktm1128 76ers Apr 01 '23

9

u/DMMVNF 76ers Apr 01 '23

-1

u/BKBance Raptors Apr 01 '23

Lol he's so proud of nearly choking a 20 point lead to this mid Raptors team

fake contender

Let them enjoy this bra, it’ll make their playoff collapse so much sweeter.

I mean this whole exchange is corny ass shit talk from both sides, saying something like this is just dumb.

3

u/droreddit Raptors Apr 01 '23

yep, it's great that Joel didn't fall into anyone's knees tonight, although he got his customary elbow into someone's jaw.

12

u/ktm1128 76ers Apr 01 '23

Funny, Danny green calls that man MVP this year. By your account, guess that's the most non biased opinion on earth. It's great that refs actually called offensive fouls. PS looking like the shit player he is.

-7

u/droreddit Raptors Apr 01 '23

And? Danny Green ain't thinking straight since Joel almost ended his career. PS got the most rings of any Cameroonian in the league.

5

u/ktm1128 76ers Apr 01 '23

Did he hurt his leg or his head? Can a raptors fan even differentiate body parts? Is that why y'all put dicks in your ears?

How far are the raptors going to get in the playoffs this year?

1

u/MrkGrn Raptors Apr 01 '23

4 bounces lives in your head rent free for eternity

3

u/ktm1128 76ers Apr 01 '23

Hardly. He couldn't wait to leave your dogshit franchise. Only played because he was under contract. That's a kawhi moment, not a raptors moment. More about how every 1 of your fans is a complete fuckhead and no 1 except talentless thugs agree to stay there

4

u/SiakamClears Raptors Apr 01 '23

Thugs????

76ers aren't that good, homie...lol they're not getting past the Celtics or the Bucks and Harden isn't getting any younger so good luck with that...

2

u/leastbiasednbafan Apr 01 '23

Blame the refs

1

u/pascalshaka Raptors Apr 01 '23

Well, at least that Scottie Barnes fellow was really good tonight

1

u/Dxwalsh12 Raptors Apr 01 '23

Scottie was clearly the best player for the Raptors tonight. Try getting some experience this year and let Scottie cook next season

1

u/free_kark Raptors Apr 01 '23

Scottie Barnes man, give him the team

-1

u/ranchsauce13 76ers Apr 01 '23

Ashley Moyer-Gleich is to Embiid what Ben Taylor is to FVV

2

u/q1someguy Raptors Apr 01 '23

? Philly got a great whistle in the fourth.

-6

u/LosingMyBalanc Magic Apr 01 '23

Not my MVP

-3

u/CameronFcScott Raptors Apr 01 '23

Was actually a really fun game to watch with a fair whistle. Two notes is Scottie is gonna be that guy and needs a bench/shooters ASAP and Embiid really has to work on passing
