Of the Knicks many fuck ups over the past years, them passing on Mikal for Kevin Knox basically just because he was younger is probably the one that haunts me the most

23

u/Padulsky21 [BKN] Mikal Bridges Apr 01 '23

I know for a fact Sixers fans are even more in pain for having Mikal, bc they HAD Mikal who was born in Philly, is a massive Philly fan and traded him for Zhaire Smith…

11

u/shadysnorlax Apr 01 '23

You forgot the part where his mom was working for the 76ers at the time.

5

u/Padulsky21 [BKN] Mikal Bridges Apr 01 '23

I didn’t even know that part holy fuck man

7

u/Mr_Booty_Bandit 76ers Apr 01 '23

Don’t worry the 1st rounder we got with Zhaire was used in the Tobias trade 🔥

His mom also basically works for the 76ers. Had him totally in the family.

Idk it was out of your control, but being one pick away from Steph gotta sting

4

u/azizinator25 [NYK] Charles Oakley Apr 01 '23

I mean, obviously not ideal. But it's not like they chased wins that season - they finally ended the failed Marbury project and most of the guys they played were younger guys, those young guys just didn't lose quite enough games. No amount of organizational excellence (and the Knicks were not an example of organizational excellence at that point) can will shots out of the basket. Besides, Steph hadn't ascended to stardom in 2011 when Melo made his trade demand, so even if the Knicks did draft Steph, it's likely that he would have been the centerpiece of the Melo trade.

But with Mikal, that was fully within the Knicks control, and their process was just bad. And obviously bad too - "well, Mikal is better at literally every aspect of basketball. But Knox is younger and can jump higher. uPsIdE"

They're in much more trouble now because they'll be facing the 1-game below .500 Hawks

Terrible lost for the Hawks… This team has been underwhelming all season long.

Shoutout my boy DFS. Had a phenomenal, all around game.

Trae idk what the fuck you were doing, but the .500 Hawks strikes again

u/Queen_Of_The_Castle [DAL] Luka Dončić Apr 01 '23

One word, Dorian Finney-Smith 😤 I’m happy that some Mavs legends get to be in the playoffs

11

u/Padulsky21 [BKN] Mikal Bridges Apr 01 '23

I know he’s Luka’s close buddy but I’m so happy to have him. Anytime he has a really good game is when we look complete. This was definitely his best game as a Net, but he’s been massive in some of our biggest wins 😤😤

2

u/latman Nets Apr 01 '23

We're a good team if DFS shoots just average

31

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '23 edited Apr 01 '23

You have to be so fucking bad on defense to give up 43 points to us in a single quarter.

Also this off season we should call the Hawks and see if we can get Murray (I doubt that could happen) but he would fit so well with our group his game is awesome.

13

u/jtezus Hawks Apr 01 '23

You can have him. He’s definitely not overated and was worth all three first round picks. Mikal for DJM seems fair to me.

8

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '23

Oh I mean of course he's not worth 3 firsts lol.

3

u/jtezus Hawks Apr 01 '23

You can have Jc too he’s really good on a completely team friendly contract.

7

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '23

For some reason Nets Twitter actually wants Collins lol

4

u/L99_DITTO Nets Apr 01 '23

Collins is the one I'm 100% glad we never acquired. He plays so soft when I see him play, it's infuriating for his athletic talents. The idea of Collins is better than the actual production of Collins.

Murray might have value on the right team but I don't see it being on the Hawks next to Trae unfortunately.

4

u/DorkandPoon Hawks Apr 01 '23

At this point I’d take Cam Thomas and one of Suns picks for DJM. You can have John Collins too. Idc if the money works just please get him out of ATL

1

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '23

Is Murray been bad for you guys overall? Or just a bad fit next to Trae?

1

u/DorkandPoon Hawks Apr 01 '23

I’d say just a bad fit. I think the pair could work but both Trae and DJM would have to be better off ball

2

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '23

Seems at least watching it Trae needs to be more active off ball? Cause Murray seems like the more active inside the arc player.

1

u/DorkandPoon Hawks Apr 01 '23

Yeah it’ll probably be better to let DJM run the offense but Trae clearly hasn’t ever played off ball. So I think the transition has been rougher than most Hawks fans have anticipated

With this Nets win, Hawks loss, and Raptors loss, the Nets have basically clinched at least the 7th seed.

For either the Hawks or Raptors to pass the Nets, the Nets need to go 0-5 and the Hawks/Raptors would each need to go 5-0 from here on out.

They're also now 2 games up on the Heat, but really 3 since they have the tiebreaker.

So it looks like they have a very good chance of making the playoffs outright and not being in the play-in.

3

u/Minnamaker Apr 01 '23

And a very winnable schedule going forward: Jazz Twolves Pistons Magic 6ers

2 of the 3 worst teams in the east, 2 mediocre teams of the west and a sixers team that is winnable if they don't have to play for seeding anymore and decide to rest.

PLEASE stay focused, play with energy and get some momentum going🙏

10

u/MolingHard [BRK] Caris LeVert Apr 01 '23

That game completely fell apart for the Hawks in the 2nd half, sheesh

It really seems like Trae and Murray never have their A game at the same time

And oh man, John Collins, Nets social media's most desired player last off-season laid down an absolute stinker

For the Nets, they took care of business at home, Mikal's shot making is off the charts, and whenever Doe has a good to mediocre game it seems like we always win

Seems like we are gonna see Sixers vs Nets in the 1st round, such a shame that Ben won't be able to play though

I have no clue what the Hawks are gonna do with John Collins this offseason. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a player who regressed harder than he did, he's gonna wind up being a potential salary dump. He's getting beat on defense, and he has the yips shooting or something, he's a negative asset on the court right now.

He's not the source of all this team's problems mind you, Hunter deserves a share of the blame (even though he wasn't involved in this one), as well as other roster construction issues. But if the Hawks are gonna be as good as they should be, John Collins and DeAndre Hunter have to be better or the team is gonna be stuck being Midlanta. Travis Schlenk fumbled the bag with them.

edit: On another note I'm happy for Mikal Bridges getting his chance to be the guy and really showing out. Good luck Nets.

As the OP of that post, I definitely picked the wrong day. Pretty sure Luka has never had a game that bad.

I have paid the shame debt all within like seven hours. Thanks for having my back Trae!

4

u/L99_DITTO Nets Apr 01 '23

You had to pick a day where the under-.500 Hawks played, bad timing for sure.

8

u/MolingHard [BRK] Caris LeVert Apr 01 '23

The thing is Trae is probably gonna go off vs the Mavs on Sunday

The 0.500 Hawks are inevitable, and the Mavs will be on a b2b and their defense is already shambolic

5

u/DareToDaredevil Apr 01 '23

Trae is a basketball terrorist

9

u/han2685 Apr 01 '23

I’m not completely sold on cam Johnson, but the nets need to do everything possible to keep bridges happy

18

u/MolingHard [BRK] Caris LeVert Apr 01 '23

Cam seems a tad streaky, but he's 6'8" and can shoot reasonably well, he's gonna get a solid contract

10

4

u/jtezus Hawks Apr 01 '23

There needs to be a study about this Hawks team. One game under .500 they would beat the 95-96 Bulls and then lose to the 2011 Bobcats the very next game. Truly incredible.

2

u/MoneylineBasketball [GSW] Stephen Curry Apr 01 '23

Mikal WTF. Suns gave up on a 2-way stud for complaining dud

3

u/LeBrown_James666 Kevin Durant Apr 01 '23

I don’t like Trae Young because he’s not cool

The NBA is filled with some of the worlds best athletes, genetic freaks, players with an insane combination of physical tools and basketball talent… and then there’s normal sized human Trae Young with his goofy ahh haircut. Chucking threes and missing most of them, acting cocky af completely unwarranted. Plays for the Atlanta Hawks, like bruh.. do they even have fans?

Every day I find myself hoping that he will fail, not because I hate him, but because he’s just so lame and ruins the whole vibe of the league… like it would be a better league if he just didn’t exist. Saying that Trae Young is your favourite player is like saying “I respect Carlos Boozer’s game”. Like… you’re trying to be different…

1

u/nooblevelum Rockets Apr 01 '23

I am surprised Quinn Synder took this job. New GM and ownership with not such a great track record

-2

u/Ifinishfast42 Apr 01 '23

Luka for trae and first that ended up being cam reddish is one of the worst trades in recent memory.

0

u/DorkandPoon Hawks Apr 01 '23

I mean is it even worse than the Dejounte trade? It’s not like the Mavs have been so much better than the Hawks since the 2018 draft day trade

2

u/Queen_Of_The_Castle [DAL] Luka Dončić Apr 01 '23

I agree about the Mavs part but what’s wrong with Dejounte? I’m sorry I haven’t seen many Hawks games, does he not fit well in Atlanta?

0

u/DorkandPoon Hawks Apr 01 '23

He’s just not a good fit and not worth 3 first round picks. I was ecstatic when we got him but the naysayers and detractors were right. His on ball defense is bad and he gets tunnel vision on offense a lot

1

u/L99_DITTO Nets Apr 01 '23

That's weird, his numbers look pretty much in line with what you'd expect and he had a really strong defensive rep when he was with the Spurs. Could it be a coaching issue? (Obviously Snyder isn't going to have a major impact until he gets an offseason to install his concepts so maybe Murray will look better next season).
