tatum hitting 40 and 39 in the two games of a back to back is a dream come true after the month he's had

Bucks fans told me it was impossible to win when you have 5 games in 7 nights and you are on a back to back.
Tatum must really deserve the MVP

it feels weird to have his stepbacks go in like this at the skill level hes at now. if it carries on through the playoffs its a wrap.

jaylen might have a mediocre game but Tatum showed up. i hope the slump is over.
Walker Kessler is a stud. Sky's the limit for this dude

The slump been over my guy. 5 straight games of elite production

u/JoJonesy Celtics Apr 01 '23
Hope Jaylen's OK. If it was just fatigue I totally get it, but he looked bad out there. He was questionable for this game with a back thing, which always makes me nervous
8
u/imused2it Celtics Apr 01 '23
He’s a decent player but it doesn’t help that his defenders were moose and the hornet.
12
u/stockyriki [BOS] Malcolm Brogdon Apr 01 '23
I mean that's fair but I think the celtics were also uncomfortable driving to the paint because of him
11
u/imused2it Celtics Apr 01 '23
Nah. They didn’t drive as much because of the zone that also allowed us to hit 4 3’s in a row in the 3rd.

Yeah the bucks big three had all sat out games during that stretch and played three tanking teams
19
u/DayMan-Ahah-ah Celtics Apr 01 '23
lol the people using the ‘5 games in 7 days’ excuse never mentioned that
11
u/AdmiralWackbar Celtics Apr 01 '23
They should have just left it at second night of a back to back
4
u/DayMan-Ahah-ah Celtics Apr 01 '23
forreal
it’s annoying in general when people complain about stuff like that. every team has hard stretches, that’s the game
5
u/lyonhawk Celtics Apr 01 '23
And it’s usually more valid when you lose a close game. “Yep, second night of a B2B and just ran out of gas in the 4th” is a lot different than “So exhausted from the B2B we were down 30 at halftime”
→ More replies (0)49
u/JoJonesy Celtics Apr 01 '23
like, objectively speaking, we had a pretty normal non-blowout type of win against a lottery team missing all of their good players, whereas the Bucks had to play a fellow contender. but it's funny so i don't care

You could huff a lot of copium with that reasoning and absolutely no one would bat an eye.

u/Jpgamerguy90 Apr 01 '23
Win doesn't count. Jazz didn't have Middleton.
77
u/sikontoure Bucks Apr 01 '23
I knew our asses would get clowned one day if that side of the fanbase kept using that BS ass excuse
14
u/bedardanywherebutmtl Celtics Apr 01 '23
I mean, ngl most of our fanbase does fear Middleton, he does become MJ against us. It's not one bad regular season that will make us forget what he did to us in the past. Also, idc too much about the regular season, sure the blowout was nice but we all know what matters is what's coming. Not counting out Middleton ever. That being said after all those comments last year, you know we'll meme the fuck out of the bucks if we beat you guys with middletob in the playoffs.
33
u/dk240996 [BOS] Gigi Datome Apr 01 '23
Damn, so are we 1-77 right now cause I wouldn't mind adding Wemby to this roster.
5
u/LordHussyPants Celtics Apr 01 '23
0-78 i think, it only counts if middleton plays 36 minutes - that's what per 36 is right?
16
u/sneeder86 Celtics Apr 01 '23
It’s balanced because it’s the 7th game in 5 nights and the second half of a back to back (impossible to win)
10
u/youkrocks [BOS] Jayson Tatum Apr 01 '23
Also the Celtics didn’t even get to Boston until this afternoon

u/solarscopez Celtics Apr 01 '23
With this win against the Jazz, the Celtics have now beaten every team in the NBA at least once this season.
Last time they did this was in the 2007-08 season, when they won a championship.

3s were absolutely not a problem for Tatum in the Finals. I’m pretty sure he averaged like 45% or something like that. He just was terrible inside the paint, and also pretty bad at the line in that series
22
u/spinachoptimusprime Apr 01 '23
You are correct. He was 45% from three, 32% from inside the arc, 42% at the rim and 66% from the line in the Finals.

Considering how well you guys have done against us this season, I'm just wondering from Utah fans what you guys think is missing to get to the next level? Once Lauri is back, team is all healthy and all.
38
u/AGRE7979 Jazz Apr 01 '23
A first option basically. We have a fucking awesome supporting cast but we need a high end creator / playmaker because Lauri is close to the perfect offball player but doesnt have the handle for creating shot for him/other. So we kinda need the hardest piece to get yet but have enough asset to get there.
17
u/Efficient_Art_1144 Celtics Apr 01 '23
I think Ainge is doing another one of those “rebuild but never have to bottom out to do it” type resets. We got the Nets help, you guys are getting it from Minny.
7
u/KaizenRed Celtics Apr 01 '23
As a joke, I’d tell you to go get Kyrie Irving, but in all seriousness, yeah, you guys do need a STAR point guard
2
u/TheMoonsMadeofCheese Jazz Apr 01 '23
Hypothetically we could go all out and trade for Luka, give the Mavs all the draft picks they could possibly want in return. But that is the dream scenario.
8
u/JoJonesy Celtics Apr 01 '23
i mean i don't think this game is representative of much of anything for the Jazz, considering the personnel on display
(except that Will Hardy is a damn good coach, but we already knew that)
3
u/Xsy Jazz Apr 01 '23
Sexton is big for us too. I'm in a minority where I think Clarkson's needs to go. He's a good player for us, but I don't like him as a lead option, especially at his age and where the rest of the team is.
We'll hopefully get a solid rookie, and then either have another season of growing pains, or use our load of assets to trade for a disgruntled star.
1
u/menghis_khan08 Jazz Apr 01 '23
I agree with you. He’s my fav remaining player of the old team and love his energy and personality (I rock a Clarkson Flamethrower shirt proudly like once every two weeks) - but it’s clear he doesn’t really fit in with the rosters playstyle or timeline of the team.
It appears we’re setting him up to explore FA this offseason which is best for both parties, bc valuable bets like him deserve to contribute to teams trying to win now
2
u/16patterjo [UTA] Eric Leckner Apr 01 '23
We need a three and a point. Preferably big and athletic. We get lucky and get the second or third pick, maybe something like Brandon Miller and then JHS with the Wolves pick. Or sign Kuz and draft Anthony Black. There’s a ton of options, but once we fill those two spots, they’re gonna be cooking with fish grease, imo
2
u/UnfortunatePhysics Jazz Apr 01 '23
Depending on what next level means right now, I’d say Utah needs a consistent 3 pt threat and a good floor general. With our young guys still improving and those imaginary two players I think we could get good pretty fast. Also this huge front court is great and I think we need a good long term replacement that’s similar to olynyk
2
u/menghis_khan08 Jazz Apr 01 '23 edited Apr 02 '23
Idk if I’d hate cashing in nearly all our picks for 2nd pick for scoot.
There’s prob easier probabilities to land a dominant 2 guard though with the pick haul we have plus keep a ton of them, though
1
u/everythingisamovie Apr 01 '23
I’d honestly cash in less and go after Dame & sign a couple other pieces and just turn and burn this thing back to the playoffs before I’d go crazy on a rookie.
Or throw the whole closet at Luka. Luka and Lauri are a picture perfect match. Then we’re not waiting on a rookie to learn how to win while Lauri’s prime comes and goes.
1
u/menghis_khan08 Jazz Apr 01 '23
Yes to the Luka idea. I don’t like the Dame idea.
I don’t like superstar vets over 31. If you don’t win in 1-2 years you can’t even trade that star away for value. It’s sunk cost
1
u/everythingisamovie Apr 01 '23
Idk Mike and change grabbed a very good first. I think Dame at 36 with some young rotational prospects would do the exact same.
I mean that’s why you’re not doing a Dame move unless you’re going pretty decently lower than say the price for Mitchell.
1
u/menghis_khan08 Jazz Apr 01 '23
Mike was negative value in that trade. Beasley and vando and lakers shedding salary were the value in that trade.
1
u/everythingisamovie Apr 01 '23
The salary was half a year and relatively inconsequential. I think it’s pretty biased to argue Mike being negative value in that deal. His value the wolves was the only reason it could have happened.

As a Jazz fan it’s kinda funny seeing all this in this thread because we were without our three best players and it was a few stretches of NBA Jam shooting that won what was otherwise a pretty decent struggle for a contender.
Y’all really desperate to flex on the bucks that’s all I’m saying haha. It’s fun to watch the bases go at it.

u/OmniaCausaFiunt Celtics Apr 01 '23
Can't convince me games aren't getting "massaged". As soon as the Cs were up 14 and had momentum, they started calling fouls for the Jazz and didn't call 2 charges for Blake. Spread was something like 11.5 at the half, coincidence? Gambling has ruined sports.
62
u/AGRE7979 Jazz Apr 01 '23
How to do a Tony Brothers Special:
-Doesnt call a free throw until deep in the third and frustate one team
-Then make questionnable makeup call and frustate the other one
-Good Job both team are now frustated, you have taking over the control of the game and called 4 tech and one Flagrant-1
-Go home alone and stroke yourself infront of your mirror
Seriously every game I watched refed by this clown goes the same exact way.
19
u/OmniaCausaFiunt Celtics Apr 01 '23
Any time it seems like the refs are just "letting them play" the first half. The game always gets terribly reffed the second half and ruins the whole vibe of the game. Just keep things consistent ffs.
1
u/everythingisamovie Apr 01 '23
Well, they let Boston play in the first half lol.
1
u/OmniaCausaFiunt Celtics Apr 01 '23
Play what, no defense? We didn't have a rim protector and let them get all their points in the paint. Barely even contested any shots.

u/OmniaCausaFiunt Celtics Apr 01 '23
It's not that serious dude. Just rival fans ribbing each other.
If you really think the refs were favoring us, that's fine. But really imo they were trying to keep the scores close, rather than favoring either team.
0
u/everythingisamovie Apr 01 '23
It’s not that serious dude. Just rival fans ribbing each other
Why is my ribbing serious? Just take the ribbing back don’t actually make it serious lol
But really imo they were trying to keep the scores close, rather than favoring either team.
So you are trying to tell me that Utah didn’t shoot a free throw for like three quarters because you were being rewarded witha close score for not trying at all?
Man you Celtics fans do more gymnastics than Blake on the ground trying to tie up people’s arms and legs during loose balls
1
u/OmniaCausaFiunt Celtics Apr 01 '23
Why is my ribbing serious? Just take the ribbing back don’t actually make it serious lol
Cause yours sounds more salty than it is ribbing. Multiple comments complaining the refs didn't give you guys FTs. Go pull up all the clips of the supposed missed fouls. I distinctly remember JB letting guys get by him for a lay up, Blake not even jumping to contest shots. The Boston broadcasters were comparing the entire first half that we were just giving up points in the paint without any effort.

u/TheInfinityOfThought Celtics Apr 01 '23
If Tony Brothers was a cop, he’d be the type of cop to shoot an unarmed blind man in the back and say he was defending himself.

3
u/AdmiralWackbar Celtics Apr 01 '23
If your going to pay the players like 50mil a year you should pay the refs really well and hold them to a high standard. Give them a ton of off season training and have workshops with players so they can get on the same page and work together to create the best product possible.
17
u/imused2it Celtics Apr 01 '23
Yep and called Blake for that T for slapping the ground and Tatum for throwing his hands up. Idk if every ref is in on it, but Tony brothers definitely is.

7
u/LordHussyPants Celtics Apr 01 '23
someone pointed out that blake had a foot in the restricted area on one, and on the other marcus had a reach in foul before the charge, so blake's efforts didn't count.
0
u/OmniaCausaFiunt Celtics Apr 01 '23
I must have missed that his foot was in the circle on the first one. That reach in seemed like a soft af call to keep them from getting a charge. They called another reach on Marcus when he had all ball.
3
u/lopodo777 Jazz Apr 01 '23
so when the Jazz shot 0 free throws in 2 and a half quarters the game was massaged, right?
14

Felt like this in our game against the wizards. We didn't get fouled apparently until the 29th minute when we were down a shit ton
5

The Celtics weren’t playing any defense on them. Maybe tired from a b2b. Finally decided to get serious towards the end.
5

That tends to happen when the other team isn't playing any defense. Cs were playing very little defense all night.

Eddie House isn’t built for the mic. Beside Gorman he’s supposed to be the color commentator but was either scared to talk too much or had absolutely nothing to add to the game besides random doomer comments or saying “that guy is good”. Honestly once Gorman retires the crew needs to be Grande and Max from the radio. Scal’s not a play-by-play guy and there’s not exactly a good market for them. It’s unfortunate Kyle Draper relocated to the Kings it seemed like he was poised to take the job and he’s great at it.
